Why a new fob has to be programmed
A fob fresh out of the package doesn't know your vehicle. Usually two things have to happen: the remote buttons are paired so lock and unlock work, and the fob's immobilizer chip or smart-key signal is registered with the vehicle's security system so the engine will start. Many newer vehicles need a manufacturer security PIN to do that.

Replacing a lost fob vs. adding a spare
If you still have one working fob, adding a second is the simplest job we do. If every fob is lost, we can still help: that's an all-keys-lost job, it takes a bit more time, and we'll walk you through it when you call.
